Your First Chiropractic Visit with your Sammamish Chiropractor

Chiropractic Basics

Once you have made the decision to seek treatment from your chiropractor you are on the journey to experience relief from common conditions such as neck pain, back pain, headaches or other problems. This is a brief step by step guide to help answer questions or concerns before meeting with a chiropractor and seeing if you are a candidate for treatment and/or relief for your conditions.

If you are new to chiropractic care, you may have many questions and are unsure of what to expect during your first visit with your chiropractor of choice. What is a chiropractic adjustment? Will it hurt? What are the costs associated? What questions should I be asking my doctor? Here at Precision Chiropractic and Massage we make it easy so we will do a step by step of what you can expect so you can have the best chiropractic experience possible.

What To Expect – First Visit

The main goal of  an initial visit with your doctor is to determine a diagnosis which will be assessed through a consultation and necessary examinations, this could take roughly an hour to determine the exact cause of your problems. You will be asked about problems you have been encountering and the nature of your pain along with previous health history.  Your chiropractor may recommend an examination, posture analysis and other tests such as x-ray, to evaluate your health status and reach an accurate diagnosis.

Once you have been diagnosed, your doctor will devise a specific treatment plan according to there findings. You should expect therapeutic treatment to improve your comfort. You may receive a spinal manipulation along with recommended home exercises, and the application of heating or ice as needed. Depending on what is causing your pain and the severity of the issue, you might receive treatment the same day. Or, adjustments and treatments may be scheduled for another time. Learn more about what to expect before your visit here http://www.chirocare.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Pre-Visit_04-04.pdf.

Questions To Ask Your Chiropractor

1. How long have you been practicing chiropractic?

2. What are your qualifications?

3. Do you commonly treat my condition?

4. What type of diagnosis testing is needed?

What to Expect – Post Visits

How Will I Feel After My Session?

After your first session, it is common to find relief. Occasionally a feeling of “letting go” may occur, allowing you to unwind chronic tension patterns. Over several sessions you will likely feel more relaxed and symptoms you previously experienced are improving.

What If I Feel Sore?

Any adverse effects are typically minor and brief in length. The likelihood of initial soreness or increased pain after a chiropractic adjustment has been found to be similar to that of starting an exercise program. There are several ways you can speed up the healing process after a chiropractic treatment. Self-care plans will help you restore your body to good health and help you experience the results of the treatment more quickly. Your chiropractor will advise you on any common experiences and may instruct to do the following:

To promote healing after an adjustment, your chiropractor may instruct you to:

  • Use an ice pack on the treated area (for any swelling or redness)
  • Try light stretching exercises
  • Sleep on a suitable mattress
  • Avoid heavy lifting
  • Refrain from intense physical exercise for at least 3-5 days
  • Eat a balanced diet
  • Drink plenty of water

Scheduling A Follow-up Session

After you have received chiropractic treatment you will be advised to schedule a follow up visit. During this second visit your doctor will analyze the results of the spinal exam and any other tests that had been performed. You will get a better understanding of how your feeling and the power of the body and it's healing potential.

Patients sometimes make the mistake of receiving treatment once and then fail to follow up with their chiropractor for the recommended treatments afterward. For optimal results, you should complete the treatment plan that you discussed with your chiropractor. Once your problem had been corrected, it is usually recommended that you consider wellness or maintenance care. Wellness checkups help you maintain the improvements that have been made, and they also allow your chiropractor to detect minor issues before they turn into major problems so you avoid the same problems that initially brought you in.  Similar approach as to wearing braces and then wearing a retainer per the orthodontists requests.

Testimonials

Reviews By Our Satisfied Patients

  • "I started to go to Precision Chiropractic and Massage in 2014 for the Ideal Protein program, had a great experience and reached my goal. Then I returned to them a few months ago for massage services, reasonable pricing, both Sharon and Tami are GREAT! Then I started seeing Dr. Schweitzer and Dr. Bennett for my neck, shoulder and back problems, and felt much better just after a few adjustments. Now I take my mom there too for adjustments. I've always had a great experience there, love the front desk ladies! I suggest you go check them out!"

  • "Tami is one of the most caring massage therapists that I have gone to. I tell her what the problem is and she works it out. I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting to get excellent massage therapy."
    Jim R.
  • "I feel way better since coming to see Dr. Schweitzer. He's helped me with my lower back, hips and even my tennis elbow. I also just signed up for Ideal Protein through his office."
