Gratitude...3 Simple Ways to Take Better Care of Yourself, So You Can Take Care of Others

It's that time of year where we give our thanks. Our minds ponder...what are we THANKFUL for? When you are asked what are you most thankful for, what do you say? Regardless of your situation, the list of things to be grateful for is long if you are willing to look: health, ability to earn income, food on the table, a place to live, a car to drive and the list goes on.  A recent social media study (1) shows what will likely come as no surprise: by and large the thing we are most thankful for is not a thing at all – it’s people. The relationships we create, experiences, and memories.

We all have people who make an impact on our lives and give us the profound gift of a meaningful relationship – whether it is the sage wisdom of a parent, the imaginative play session of a child, or the personal guidance of a mentor. The best way to say “thank you” to those important people in your life is to be there when they need you. To ensure you are there for the important moments and people of your life, start by taking care of you. Do you put yourself first? Are you always putting others first before yourself? These are all things we can be better at some point in our lives. That constant feeling of "I should do better". When your health is involved it's the one thing we can all improve upon.

Deciding to take better care of you can sometimes feel overwhelming and many of us don’t start out with an extra hour each day to devote to improving our self-care.  While some of these important activities do take the investment of time, some only take a few minutes and all of them are worth it. Finding the small moment to set aside for yourself will enlighten you of the many benefits it has. Then you'll ask yourself "Why did I wait so long" the results will out way all the reasons or excuses you've been making all this time.
                                            Thoughts on gratitude. #quotes #grateful:
Here are 3 key ways to take better care of yourself so you can be there – physically and mentally – for the ones you love.
Be Intentional
Life is busy, unpredictable, and will pull you in every direction if you let it.  You may find that you lay your head down at night and wonder what – if anything – you accomplished with your day.  As a result, you feel stressed and unmotivated at best and at worst – you’ve missed creating important moments with the ones you love.  Take the time to be intentional with your life, starting with each day.  Whether you use your phone or a paper planner, sit down for 15 minutes the night before and map out your day to include the things you want to accomplish.  Whether it is exercise, reading, writing, calling a loved one, writing a thank you note – be specific and assign a time in the day to do it.  Once you begin the habit of planning your day, you’ll be surprised by just how much time you have.
Find Gratitude
Studies show that people who focus on finding gratitude see positive results in many other areas of their lives. (2) Set an alert on your phone or keep a post-it note at your desk reminding you to take a “gratitude break”.  Finding gratitude is a quick, simple and free way to improve your self-care today.
Take Care of Your Body
The proven health benefits of exercise and a healthy diet (3) are widely accepted and understood by most people.  If that’s the case, why aren’t we all in perfect health and in perfect shape?  World renowned leadership expert and author, Dr. John C. Maxwell says, “the greatest gap in the world is the gap between knowing and doing.”  How do you bridge that gap?  Make it personal. To be there for the ones you love do

wn the road, there is no disputing that you must care for the only body you have. Make it personal and you will make it a priority. Start simple: instead of going on a highly restrictive diet, focus on adding 5 vegetables to your daily dietary intake.  Instead of spending an hour at the gym each day to start, focus on walking 15-30 minutes each day.  You’ll be amazed what small changes over time can accomplish.

Testimonials

Reviews By Our Satisfied Patients

  • "I started to go to Precision Chiropractic and Massage in 2014 for the Ideal Protein program, had a great experience and reached my goal. Then I returned to them a few months ago for massage services, reasonable pricing, both Sharon and Tami are GREAT! Then I started seeing Dr. Schweitzer and Dr. Bennett for my neck, shoulder and back problems, and felt much better just after a few adjustments. Now I take my mom there too for adjustments. I've always had a great experience there, love the front desk ladies! I suggest you go check them out!"

  • "Tami is one of the most caring massage therapists that I have gone to. I tell her what the problem is and she works it out. I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting to get excellent massage therapy."
    Jim R.
  • "I feel way better since coming to see Dr. Schweitzer. He's helped me with my lower back, hips and even my tennis elbow. I also just signed up for Ideal Protein through his office."
